≽ Selected Text for Book Analysis Assignment
The text that I have chosen to use for the Book Analysis Assignment is the work by the author Prue Shaw, Reading Dante: From Here to Eternity.
≽ Interests Toward the Work and Selection Process
There were various factors that played into which text I chose as my main subject of analysis for this major assignment, but there was one main concern in which finalized my decision. I knew the work had to be of, or relating to, an iconic piece of literature. This would not only allow a far easier process of research, but to also nearly imply that there truly is something worth interpreting within the work itself.
Now although I am sure that every work listed on the sheet is capable of meeting this requirement, I wanted to pursue the Inferno as it has always piqued my interest with its robust, yet dark world. Also, I've always wanted to see if it was possible for me to delve deeper into its impact it has had on our modern culture, as its influences can now be seen in literature, film, and gaming alike.
Appropriately however, I was informed by Dr. Cleworth that the original Inferno by Dante Alighieri is quite challenging, and had suggested I start with the book Reading Dante: From Here to Eternity by author Prue Shaw. I think this is an excellent recommendation as not only was I quite hesitant to choose the original text as my subject of analysis, but I was afraid of the lack of knowledge I have about the times contextualizing the original work.

≽ Anticipated Reading Experience and Outcome
My expectations from this text are quite hopeful, as I have now found Prue Shaw to be considered among the leading authorities when it comes to Dante Alighieri, and the book looks remarkably approachable. In the end, I am hoping that Prue Shaw can be much like Dante's Virgil in my regards, and navigate me through the Inferno's Nine Levels of Hell, guiding with insight and experience along the way. Once through, I hope to use this newfound knowledge upon the subject to tackle the true Inferno with a sense of confidence and tenacity.
